Values and Ethos

No description available

As a Church School we have a duty and responsibility to educate children in an understanding of the Christian faith and its values. In addition we aim to encourage a sense of community and belonging to the school, our town and our country.

Our values as a school are then interlinked as British citizens and we aim:

  • To provide an environment where all pupils and their families feel valued and welcome, and where they are encouraged to make a positive contribution to the life of the school and the wider community. Pupils learn about democracy and become part of the school by being elected to the school council, or volunteering for the eco-group and many older pupils hold positions of responsibility such as house captains or are given responsibility in key monitor roles.
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum appropriate to the needs of individual children, and relevant to our changing world.
  • To develop in each child self-confidence, self-esteem and a pride in their own abilities and in their school.
  • To provide a stimulating and challenging environment in which all pupils will enjoy their learning and achieve the best they can.
  • To encourage children to work independently and with others, to be caring and sensitive to the needs of each other, to respect the differences between people and to show tolerance of other people’s ideas and beliefs. We are partnered with St Marys in Wakefield and hold visits to each other’s schools. St Marys school has a widely diverse community with many faiths and backgrounds.
  • To develop in all pupils, self-discipline and good behaviour, to follow the school rules and rules within the wider community.
  • To foster an awareness of the need to have a healthy life style, emotionally, socially and physically, and an appreciation of the benefits of a balanced diet, exercise and rest.
  • To provide pupils with the skills and outlook to become responsible global citizens of the future.
